Useful Stuff My Flatmates Teach Me:
Kumpel
Pal, buddy
Also, direct quote from a German teacher the other day:
“Mütze ist doof, Mütze ist SCHEISSE!”
She is not a fan of the word Mütze. Which simply means “beanie”, by the way.

Besides heading straight into a downpour on my way to class (on my bike, mind you), I’m just tired. So tired.
When are things going to quiet down?

I was flicking back through pictures today and saw it and it made me smile. Why?
Because the goober sitting directly at the far end of the table in the grey shirt is my boyfriend. That was the night we met. 4 months later and it makes me smile.
I did the unthinkable today. I got mah hair did. In Germany.
It wasn’t that bad. Originally, my friend Jess was going to come with to facilitate the language issues (I can speak German, but, come on, a haircut?) but I got too annoyed with my hair and just walked into the salon across from my flat.
It’s still wet, but I hope it dries ok. The bangs are back!
I have got to stop going to Paris. For real.
This time, though, I have some new things I want to check out. Plus some good friends just happen to be in town as well. Plus the weather is looking awesome (knock on wood). Plus I’m taking a bus from 10.30 pm to 6 am. Oh yeah. Such comfort and style. Meh, I splurged on a train back.
So new pictures of new things is the theme. Plus good food. The friend I’m meeting, we have an agreement that I translate/tour/plan/navigate and he pays for food. And he’s the kind who won’t skimp on food. It has to be good. All I’m saying is I could do this for a living…
P.S. I have a Flat Stanley from a cousin in Iowa traveling with me as well :)
I miss you so much that it hurts.
I’m back!
More or less. I have been a little distracted the last couple months by new people in my life. But I ain’t complaining.
So right after Christmas I took off for Barcelona (again) to babysit Max and Izzy. Even the modest warmth of Barca was uplifting after winter in Münster. The sun was refreshing, to say the least.
We were only in Barca for 3 days, but it was jam packed with tapas and wine. Spain is something else.
Then I was back in Paris (I really need to stop going there. The problem is, when people visit they go to Paris first and foremost. So ya gotta go. At least I love it.) I met 2 American friends there and we spent New Years in Paris. Which, I will add, was a huge disappointment. No fireworks. French people yelling like hoodlums from flat windows is nothing compared to a good old pyrotechnics display. Meh.
Then we were on to Brussels, Belgium. First time (yay somewhere new!) for all of us, and I found it charming and interesting. I would love to go back and catch the things we simply didn’t have time for. We spent most of our time in Belgium in Gent. As strange as it sounds, I have family in Gent. Some distant cousins on my mom’s side. Anywho, my grandparents put us in touch through email, and we stayed at their place for two nights. Traveler’s Tip: Go to Gent. People skip over it, thinking it doesn’t have much to offer, but it is spectacular. Even in the rain, I loved it. Castles, churches, bridges and steeples. Absolutely charming and I highly recommend it.
Then To Amsterdam. (BTW I have a few pics of these cities, but on the iPhone, so I will put those up later) Amsterdam was… different. It has its obvious perks, but to me those were too touristy and overdone. Coffee shops and head shops on every corner, among other thing. But beyond that it has the potential to be a really nice city. You can tell the nightlife on the weekends is boppin’. But I didn’t get to enjoy its charm. Hopefully I can make it back.
And that’s about all for now. I will be back in Paris from March 25 to April 2. Meeting one of my favorite people in the while world, since he decided to get his smarty pants in gear and make it over here for spring break. It’s his first trip outside of the US, so I hope I do a good job as expedition leader. I would really like to get us to Madrid for a couple night, but it really is a trek. If anyone has any advice on how best to get from Paris to Madrid, hit me up. I’m all ears.
